How your PTE Core score becomes CRS points

Your PTE Core result is not counted directly in Express Entry. IRCC turns each skill into a CLB level, and it is your CLB that earns points in the Comprehensive Ranking System. Understanding that chain helps you decide where to aim.

From score to CLB to points

The path is always the same. Your PTE Core score in each skill converts to a CLB level. Your CLB levels then feed the CRS. A Speaking score of 68, for example, is read as CLB 7, and it is the CLB 7 that earns points, not the 68. This is why two people with different raw scores can earn the same points if they land on the same CLB.

Lowest skill sets the toneBecause CRS language points are tied to your CLB in each skill, one weak skill can hold down the points for that ability. Balancing all four skills usually earns more than pushing one very high while another lags.

Why CLB 9 is a turning point

Strong English does more than earn language points on its own. At higher CLB levels, English combines with your education and work experience to unlock skill transferability points. That is why reaching CLB 9 across all four skills often produces a larger CRS jump than the raw score difference would suggest.
